Every fall Berkeley Engineering welcomes alumni, parents, families and students for a weekend of festivities that range from classroom lectures to the Homecoming football game.
Homecoming 2009

This year the College of Engineering hosted a CITRIS Tech Museum open house, a breakfast for alumni, parents and friends and two faculty lectures in the new Sutardja Dai Hall building as part of the campus-wide Homecoming activities. Professor and Chair Matthew Tirrell's lecture, outlined below, was recorded and can be viewed here.
BIOENGINEERING: MORE THAN A MEDICAL MATTER
Matthew Tirrell
Arnold and Barbara Silverman Professor and Chair, Department of Bioengineering
Learn how the field of bioengineering, which grew out of medical device technology such as prostheses and pacemakers, is now contributing broadly to advances in cost-effective healthcare, energy and the environment, public health, and to understanding in basic biology. Matthew Tirrell became chair of UC Berkeley’s bioengineering department in July 2009. Previously, he was dean of UC Santa Barbara’s College of Engineering.
