Greetings Berkeley Engineers,
CITRIS Headquarters Opening:
On February 27, the College celebrated the opening of the CITRIS headquarters. The day was a huge success with over 1,000 attendees and included opening ceremony remarks from UC President Mark Yudof, Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and former Governor Gray Davis. College of Engineering Dean Shankar Sastry read a proclamation from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the ceremony culminated with 40 participants in a ribbon cutting ceremony after which the Cal Band led everyone into Sutardja Dai Hall and the Banatao Institute@CITRIS Berkeley for tours and demonstrations. Watch the video here.
Cal Day – Volunteer Opportunities:
We're looking for volunteers to meet and greet prospective Berkeley engineering students and their parents at this year's Cal Day on April 18. We're asking volunteers to sign-up for a one-hour block between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you're interested, please contact me at bears@berkeley.edu.
Once a Berkeley Engineer ~ Always a Berkeley Engineer:
The inaugural True Blues Luncheon was held on March 18 at the Faculty Club. Over 35 alumni from the class of 1959 or earlier, emeriti faculty and their guests joined Dean Sastry and Associate Dean of International Relations George Leitmann for the program kick off. In addition to a college update by Dean Sastry; Executive Associate Dean Fiona Doyle reviewed the current undergraduate class composition and Enid Pollack, Associate Director of Development, reviewed planned giving options. A special "thank you" to John L. Pearson, Class of 1938, the oldest Bear in attendance, and all of our alumni for joining us – GO "TRUE BLUE" BEARS! View photos of the luncheon here.
Berkeley Engineers ~ Nano Song Hit on YouTube:
They sing, they dance, they explain nanotechnology to puppets - they are Berkeley Engineers and they have gone viral on YouTube with this hit original song. The "Nano Song" features music and lyrics by the multi-talented engineering grad student Ryan Miyakawa. Visit the "Nano Song" website to watch the video and see behind the scenes photos.
