Dear Berkeley Engineer:
The new term got off to a busy start with more than 800 incoming freshmen and transfer students attending the College of Engineering's New Student Orientation on August 25. We served just as many Top Dog hot dogs, and more than 35 engineering student groups, competition teams and honor societies set up information tables and recruited new members at a lively welcome lunch on the Memorial Glade. It is not a surprise that a spot at Berkeley Engineering is so sought after. The annual U.S. News & World Report school rankings were published in August and once again we are ranked in the top three nationally for undergraduate and graduate engineering programs– GO BEARS!
Fall semester is underway and that means Homecoming! The College is hosting a bevy of events for our alumni -- we hope you will come back to campus and join us! For more information or to register for any of the events below please visit the Homecoming website.
- Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., student hosts will lead 30-minute, Northside Engineering Tours: a walking tour of the engineering buildings and sneak peek of selected labs and feature exhibits of research at the College.
- Friday, Oct. 8, at 2:00 p.m. will be the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Richard C. Blum Hall, home of the Blum Center for Developing Economies and the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership. A public reception will follow.
- Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. professor Ken Goldberg will present "Opinion Space: Can Innovation and Insight be Crowdsourced?" Professor Goldberg will discuss Opinion Space 2.0, a new social media tool that engages diverse communities by soliciting and displaying their viewpoints.
- Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11:00 a.m., reconnect with engineering alumni, families, students and faculty at the Engineering BBQ!
Now THAT'S a Berkeley engineer! Have you solved an engineering problem that seemed impossible? Achieved a goal you're incredibly proud of? Completed a project that deserves recognition? Don't be modest. The Berkeley Engineering publications office wants to hear from you. We're soliciting tales of your accomplishments -- big or small, at work or home -- for an upcoming publication. Email Rachel Shafer at rshafer@berkeley.edu. Please include your name, degree information, current occupation and a short description.
GO BEARS!
