GENE KAN SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED

The Gene Kan Award, a $1,000 scholarship, will be offered in fall 2004 to acknowledge an alum who creates the most interesting, simple, useable technology to replace complex, overly academic technology. Students from all College of Engineering departments are eligible. Your technology should be easy to use and readily available to a reasonably nontechnical audience. Please include your name, department, e-mail address and phone number. The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2004. The award is not based on financial need, and the donor will select the winner. Gene, who died tragically in 2002 is also remembered as an innovator who tried to bring peer-to-peer technology beyond file-sharing.

Please submit a concise description of your technology and how it can be used to your department chair no later than September 7. Direct your questions about the scholarship to Jeanne Gilpatrick at 510-643-8361 or jgilpatr@coe.berkeley.edu.
