CATCHY SLOGAN: ME sophomore Igor Tregub says his fun campaign slogan, “Get Jiggy with Iggy,” helped get him elected to ASUC senate.

Get to know your ASUC senator: a profile of Igor Tregub

Nickname: Iggy
Hometown: Oakpark, CA
Favorite study beverage: Monster drink (better tasting version of Red Bull)
Favorite study break activity: Singing and writing music, pampering his ’95 Altima.

Involvements on campus: ASME, ME honor society Pi Tau Sigma, Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and CalPIRG.
Why he ran: “I want the ASUC to be as amazing as the students it represents and help make sure engineers get the publicity they deserve within the organization.”

After the shock of their freshman year, most students don’t dive headlong into responsibility that borrows more time from classes. But ME student Igor Tregub felt so passionately about improving the lives of students via student government that he campaigned vigorously (to the detriment of his grades) for ASUC senate.

He says the teamwork between him and his engineering running mates helped him get elected. Now, he’s eager to give back to the community that elected him. His priority is to raise awareness about ASUC resources among engineers.

“I want to install ASUC billboards on Northside so people know what the ASUC is doing. I also want to make engineers aware of what student government can do for them. The services range from troubleshooting resources and consultations to outreach and education,” he says.

Engineers need to know how resources get distributed, he says. “It’s just a matter of plugging them into the larger network,” he adds.

Iggy is here to help. He encourages students to contact him with concerns at iggyt@berkeley.edu or 510-295-8798.
