MODEST SENATOR: MSE sophomore Peter Chung say his incessant campaigning schedule and his dashing good looks were key in helping him get elected to ASUC senate.

Get to know your ASUC senator: a profile of Peter Chung

Hometown: Mission Viejo, CA
Favorite study beverage: Three Kern’s juices (it’s like syrup with 200 calories of sugar in each can)
Favorite study break activity: Playing online poker at pokerroom.com with play money.
Involvements on campus: Materials Science and Engineering Association, Model United Nations.
Why he ran: “There is a stereotype of engineers as always studying and doing little else. I wanted to break that stereotype by getting involved with student politics.”

MSE sophomore Peter Chung wants people to know that he does more than just study. In fact, this past spring he borrowed against his homework time in order to campaign 10 hours a day.
“My grades suffered but it was worth it. This is going to be an unforgettable college experience,” he says of his time in the student senate.

As ASUC senator, Chung says he wants to strengthen the EJC’s hand in supporting the Cal vehicle teams.

“Our vehicle teams help improve the reputation of this campus. We are competitive with less funds. I want to get these groups the money they deserve,” he says.

Chung, like the other engineering senators, wants to take the pulse of the engineering student body to find out what their needs are as a group. He is putting together polls to hand out to students and encourages face to face feedback.
