Northrop Grumman Donates Funds to EECS

 

Omid Shakernia of Northrop Grumman presented a check to EECS in the amount of $10,000. Professor Shankar Sastry accepted the check on behalf of the department. Omid received his Ph.D. from EECS in 2003, under Sastry’s guidance. Since September 2003, Omid has been at Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems, conducting research on computer visionbased control for unmanned aerial vehicles. Northrop Grumman requested the funds be used for general research in the areas of autonomous cooperative control and computer vision-based formation flight control.

UNIDO director to speak atBerkeley

United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Director-General Carlos Magariños will speak on “New Directions for the UN” at a special Management of Technology lecture at the Haas Business School, Monday, November 1, at 4:00 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Room.

Magariños has been director-general of UNIDO since December 1997, when he was elected to a four-year term by the organization’s member states, making him the first Argentine, as well as the youngest person, to head a United Nations specialized agency. In December 2001, he was re-elected for a second term. UNIDO is responsible for reducing poverty through sustainable industrialization in developing countries and economies in transition. Magariños has implemented an aggressive reform program that has received worldwide recognition.

Seats for the talk will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. No RSVP required.
