Minute with EECS professor Connie Chang-Hasnain
What first inspired
you to go into engineering?
I wanted a career that would make a positive impact on a large number
of people. I chose engineering because it fulfills that goal at a junior
level; one does not need to wait until one gets to a high position to
make that impact.
To date, what has been the most memorable moment in your career?
I remember many times when students had their first major success in
research work — a bit like a baby’s first step or first
word. Those are memorable moments. Another was when our research
became a product prototype.
Whom do you most admire?
Marie Curie. I admire her devotion to science and the well-being of
humanity. I also admire her perseverance and determination to overcome
all obstacles and adversity.
What do you like
to do in your spare time?
I supervise my children’s homework and read history books.
What movie should every student see?
Perhaps “Woman of the Year” and all of Katherine Hepburn’s
movies.
What is your favorite
place to eat in/around campus?
There is no clear answer that comes to mind. I like to try different
cuisine from all over world.
