A conversation with Barry
Lam
The View from the Top lecture series continues with “A Conversation
with Barry Lam.” Lam is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Quanta
Computer, the world’s top producer of notebook PCs. In a conversation
with Dean Richard Newton, Lam will discuss his vision for ubiquitous
computing, the technology gaps in China that may hinder this vision,
and the challenges the U.S. has to compete successfully in Asia.
Their conversation will take place Wednesday, November 16
from 4 to 5 p.m. in Sibley Auditorium.

Hey, motorcycle enthusiasts
On Wednesday, November 16, the ME honor society Pi Tau Sigma will
host a talk entitled “Forging Speed” by Lionel Figueroa.
Figueroa is a seven-year veteran of high-performance motorcycle
racing and an electrical engineer. He will discuss his background,
the technicalities of racing, how he’s utilized his engineering
degree, and what he’s learned about the strength of materials
and statics (not to mention dynamics). He’s bringing his
2003 Kawasaki 636 track bike as a demo/prop and will show a DVD
of his performance riding. The event takes place from 5:30 to 7
p.m. in 3110 Etcheverry. For more information, contact Chris McCoy
at mccoy@eecs.berkeley.edu.
He’s a Genius Corner winner!
The answer to last week’s brainteaser is silence.
ME junior Alvin Tai got it right first! Stay tuned for next week’s brainteaser.
