What would you say to inspire a sixth-grader to be an engineer?

I’d say you can have a hand at designing all those cool toys your friends want, like iPods or game systems.

I’d take them to see the construction on the Bay Bridge or something tangible like that. I wouldn’t show them equations.

           

 

Shonan Vora, IEOR master’s student

It depends on their aptitude. If they like math and are interested in how things work, then engineering would be a good choice.

           

 

Luke Ruggeri, CEE master’s student

I’d probably point at that [the Campanile] and say, you can build something like that.
