What advice do you have for incoming students?

Xingyuan Chen, CEE Ph.D. student

You should really try to find out what you’re interested in. Shop around in different classes and go to professors’ web pages to see what they do.

Ben Smith, ME junior

Study hard but try and get involved in other things. Join a club or do intramural sports. There’s more to college than studying.

Ahmed El-Shaer, ME Ph.D. student

Interface with as many different areas of engineering as you can. Look for the latest applications and the motivations behind them.

Ping Yee, EECS Ph.D. student

Grades don’t matter all that much. The stuff that matters is everything around the grades. Most employers won’t be paying attention to decimals in your GPA.
