U.S. News undergraduate rankings

In its annual undergraduate rankings, U.S. News & World Report once again ranked Berkeley Engineering second, in a tie with Stanford. MIT took the top slot. UC Berkeley was the top public school and 21st overall.
Biomedical engineering = 12.
Civil engineering = 2.
Computer science/engineering = 4.
Electrical engineering = 3.
Engineering physics = 6.
Environmental engineering = 6.
Industrial/manufacturing engineering = 5.
Materials science/metallurgy = 2.
Mechanical engineering = 2.
Nuclear engineering (last ranked in 2004) = 4.

He’s a genius!

Here is the answer to last week’s brainteaser: You take the bet of course. You take a length of wire, drape it over the ice block and tie a weight to the ends on the bottom. The wire cuts slowly through the block, yet the block “heals” after the wire’s passing. You are taking advantage of a phenomenon called “regelation.” CEE senior Adam Ojeda submitted the right answer.
