At the National Seismic Conference on Bridges and Highways, which took place in September, CEE professor Stephen Mahin won the James D. Cooper Best Paper Award for his paper entitled, “Use of Partially Prestressed Reinforced Concrete Columns to Reduce Post-Earthquake Residual Displacements of Bridges,” co-authored by Junichi Sakai and Hyungil Jeong. Mahin is a Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) researcher and the Byron and Elvira Nishkian Professor of Structural Engineering.
