LEAVING A LEGACY: BioE senior Alykhan Kurji hopes that his involvement in the Senior Gift Campaign will help make graduation more memorable for himself and other seniors.

Meet the 2004 Senior Gift Committee

You’re only a senior once! Be part of the tradition. To date, ten seniors have stepped forward to drive the 2004 Senior Gift Campaign: Andrew Cheng (EECS), Philip Hoang (BioE), Alykhan Kurji (BioE), Danny Lau (ME), Stanley Lau (IEOR), Matt Lowry (MSE), Olivia Or (EngSci), Isabel Pui (BioE) Adelina Ratner (EECS), and Mimi Yang (EECS).

From planning events to picking prizes, these students are helping the Class of 2004 become the most successful class to date.

“I joined the committee so I could feel more involved in this year’s graduation celebration, and so I could help make this graduation memorable for the seniors.” says committee member Alykhan Kurji.

The main goal for this year’s campaign is to beat the Class of 2003’s participation rate of 23 percent. The committee would like to see 35 percent of seniors give to the campaign this year. Other engineering schools have participation rates of 75 percent and above, so this shouldn’t be an unreasonable goal for Berkeley engineers, say committee members.

The other goal is to raise $5,000 for the Challenge Match. This gift, from generous alumnus Bob Sanderson (IEOR ’66, ’70), will match gifts two to one, tripling the total. Last year’s class turned $3,482 into $10,446 through the match, so this year’s goal of $5,000 can potentially become $15,000, the largest senior gift ever.

The tradition of giving back is something students do not just for the College, but also for themselves. This is the perfect way to show your appreciation.

"Before I leave, I want to know I did something for the College,” says committee member Olivia Or.
