Brainteaser Answer

A man took a truckload of chickens to market. In the first hour he sold half of his birds plus half of a chicken. The next hour he sold one-third of a chicken. The third hour he sold one-fourth of what he had left plus three-fourths of a chicken. The last hour he sold one-fifth of the birds plus one-fifth of a chicken. He did not cut up any chickens to make any of these sales. If he returned home with 19 chickens, how many did he take to the market?

Answer: He started with 101 chickens.

The winner is ME grad student Casey May
