Four engineers
run for ASUC Senate seats
Candidates focus on funding and northside
business hours
It's that time of year again:
ASUC elections. Below is a short Q&A with each candidate. Don't
forget to cast your vote April 5-7. For more information, go to www.asuc.org/.
Chris Abad, ME junior
Why are you qualified? As an ASUC senator this year, I sponsored bills
that helped get funding for engineering student groups and fought for
northside businesses to be open later. What will you do for engineering
students if you're elected? I will continue to get funding and to advocate
for northside businesses to stay open later.
Shalini Bhasker, ChemE freshman
Why are you qualified? I've done similar stuff like this in high school,
such as Model United Nations. I have an interest and I'm really motivated.
What will you do for engineering students if you're
elected? Work on the budget. We're barely getting six percent of funding.
I also want to integrate northside by keeping places open later.
Matt Jones, EECS freshman
Why are you qualified? I'm currently the Hall Association President
for the western half of Unit 2. I'm an intern in the ASUC Office of
the President. What will you do for engineering students if you're elected?
I plan to advocate for an increase in funding for engineering groups
and work with the city and university to improve northside, such as
keeping businesses open longer and improving lighting.
Igor Tregub, ME sophomore
Why are you qualified? I've spent the last year as an ASUC senator who
fights for the rights of Cal engineers, scientists, and northsiders.
What will you do for engineering students if you're elected? I will
bust my back until we receive 13 percent of the ASUC funding, equivalent
to the percentage of engineering students at Cal. I will also continue
to lobby the city to install better lighting on Hearst Avenue.
