Professor
Minute with IEOR Adjunct Professor Jon Burgstone
If you had not decided to go into engineering, what other career
would you have today?
In addition to teaching, I'm an entrepreneur and professional investor.
I'm passionate about creating new things. At Cal, I'm involved with
an amazing group of people building the Center for Entrepreneurship
& Technology. We're working to expand entrepreneurial education
and to promote new venture creation.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My partner likes to cook and I like to eat - it's a match made in heaven!
To date, what has been your most memorable moment in your career
and why?
The day my company was acquired for $1.1B. Needless to say, it was a
life-changing experience. Since then, I've spent a lot of time and money
working on projects to improve education and advance human rights.
What movie should every student see?
Best in Show, Bend It Like Beckham and Lost in Translation.
What CD are you listening to at the moment?
I don't own CDs anymore, but the most recently played artists on my
iPod are: 50 Cent, U2, Maroon Five, ColdPlay, Missy E, Jason Mraz, Green
Day, MC Solar, Outkast, Dido, Eminem, Avril Lavigne, and lots more cheesy
pop music that's too embarrassing to mention.
