Save the date: Real World Engineering
Join Berkeley Engineering alums for a glimpse of the practice of engineering beyond the walls of the classroom on Thursday, February 2, from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Bechtel Engineering Center. Eight panels will discuss careers in engineering and how a specific major might translate to a real-world work environment. After the panel session, enjoy food, drink, and one-on-one networking with panel participants at the wrap-up reception in Garbarini Lounge. For more information, go to http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/alumni_friends/realworld/index.html.

Volunteer!
The College needs student helpers who can assist with Real World Engineering on Thursday, February 2, from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m. As a student helper you can meet and greet alumni panelists and get front row seats to the panel of your choice! Contact eas@coe.berkeley.edu to sign up.

Engineering in Europe
The Northern Institute of Technology in Hamburg, Germany (a private institute within the Technical University, Hamburg), is seeking applicants to its 2006 Global Engineering Program. The two-year program is taught in English for students who wish to go beyond their education to develop management and leadership skills. It leads to two degrees, a master's of science and an MBA in technology management. Deadline to apply is February 28. For more information, contact Professor George Leitmann at gleit@berkeley.edu or go to http://www.nithh.de/.

New Times ranking
UC Berkeley ranks second among the world's engineering and information technology universities, according to the Times Higher Education Supplement of London published in December. The new ranking moves the university from first last year to second this year behind MIT.
