Staff HonorsIn November, Pat Berumen, student liaison for the interdisciplinary studies program in Engineering Science, received a “Berkeley Hero” award. She was one of 67 staff personnel whom students singled out as “going beyond the call of duty” in the University’s annual undergraduate experience survey. Berumen has been in her position since 1993. “Working with undergraduate and graduate students has enriched my life,” she says, “because each student with whom I interact offers me an opportunity to connect, however briefly, on a plateau where we can share concerns, ideas, and dreams.
