Attention graduating
seniors
The ME department is requesting nominations for the Serge Granik Memorial Award.
The $500 merit award will go to an engineering (any major) and/or computer
science graduating senior who has overcome unusual difficulties or adversity
to successfully complete the required course of studies. Faculty can make nominations,
and students can nominate themselves. There is no formal application form.
Send the nomination letter with supporting documentation to Sheila Slavin,
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, CA

Friday Research Exchange
On Friday, April 14, the CITRIS seminar series will host “The Emerging
Landscape of the Cell Phone Platform,” a lecture by Trevor Pering of
Intel Research. The event will take place at 12 p.m. in 540 Cory Hall. Free

Nanotechnology forum
The Berkeley Nanotechnology Club is proud to host the third annual Berkeley
Nanotechnology Forum on Saturday, April 15, at the Haas School of Business.
This year’s event will be a good chance to learn more about the current
realities of nanotechnology from top scientists, entrepreneurs and venture
capitalists. The event will include a continental breakfast, lunch and reception
and is free to all UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, and LBNL personnel.

Here is the answer to last week’s brainteaser: William C. “Rocky” Rockwell
(B.S ’48 ME) was the first Oski, and he used clay to mold the bear head
around an old football helmet. CEE senior Sara Garrett got it right first!
