Faculty Honors

Last November, BioE/ChemE professor Jay Keasling was named 2006 “Scientist of the Year” by Discover magazine. The publication honored Keasling with its first-ever award for his work in synthetic biology. Keasling is head of the synthetic biology department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and director of the Synthetic Biology Engineering Research Center.
