In March, CEE Ph.D. student Ran Holtzman received an Outstanding Student Paper Award from the American Geophysical Union. Holtzman’s paper is entitled, “The Strength of Hydrate-Bearing Sediments: A Grain-Scale Approach.” His research interests include modeling of flow and mechanical deformation in porous media, geophysics, rock and soil mechanics, groundwater and surface hydrology, computational mechanics, engineering geology and hydrogeology. He’s advised by CEE professor Tad Patzek.
