President Chang: “We feed people.”

EJC President Shares Food for Thought

Engineering Joint Council president, NE junior, Audrey Chang, feels comfortable following in the high-heeled footsteps of her predecessors. She is the third consecutive woman to hold the office.
While the EJC funds and organizes E-week, E-day, broomball games, student mentoring programs, course advising, the semi-formal, the ski trip, the talent show, and the career fair, Chang says the organization is a mystery to most engineering students. "Unless you are in a student society, you don’t really know what EJC is or does,” said Chang.

The EJC, is an umbrella organization that serves as a liaison between the Cal student government and the engineering societies. The EJC also doles out student government money to societies for projects and events. Half of EJC's yearly budget is spent on food, according to Chang, but this year’s strict rules forbid spending on munchies, the magnet that often draws students to events.

The EJC also turns to corporations for funds, but economic belt tightening might mean reduced calories at this year’s events. Chang is hopeful because the EJC has members who hit corporations up for money. To be a corporate liaison and help feed your peers, email elly@uclink.berkeley.edu.
