Spring 2010
Engineering Commencement
Sunday, May 16
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Online registration for the Spring 2010 commencement ceremony will begin January 2010.
Ticket Information
- All undergraduate and graduate students registered to participate in commencement by the registration deadline will be allotted a TOTAL of six (6) tickets, one (1) for the graduate and five (5) for family and friends, at no charge. Graduates registering after the deadline will not be guaranteed the six (6) ticket maximum. You MUST fill out either the undergraduate or graduate commencement participation online registration forms in order to request tickets.
- All guests (age 2 and older) must have a ticket to gain admittance to the Commencement ceremony. Guests will not be admitted without a ticket. Please note that seating is general admission, not reserved, on a first-come, first-served basis, and your guests may have to climb the steep steps to sit on the grassy hillside above the concrete bleacher seating.
- Extra Tickets: depending on availability a maximum of two (2) extra tickets per student registered to participate in commencement may be made available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last at the Zellerbach Hall ticket office in May. You will not need to register separately for extra tickets. Extra tickets will be designated as "LAWN" seating and guests will have to climb the steep steps to sit on the grassy hillside above the concrete bleacher seating. No extra tickets will be available for sale by the College.
- Commencement ticket pickup begins in April at the Zellerbach Hall ticket office. The Ticket Office is located at the northeast corner of Zellerbach Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. Ticket Office hours are: Mon - Fri, 12 - 5:30 pm; Sat & Sun, 1 pm - 5 pm. You MUST have filled out the online commencement participation registration form(s) or your tickets will not be available for pick up!
- Tickets will NOT be available at the Zellerbach Hall ticket office on the day of the commencement ceremony.
- If you are unable to pick up your tickets in person you may have someone pick them up on your behalf. Follow these steps in order for the ticket office to release your tickets:
- Make a legible photocopy of your student ID card.
- Write the following on the photocopy: "I authorize (insert name of person picking up your tickets) to pick up my Engineering Commencement tickets."
- Indicate the total number of tickets the person is picking up.
- Sign and date the photocopy.
- Instruct the person you authorized to pick up your tickets to bring their photo ID for verification.
Important note regarding the ticket maximum and seating at the Greek Theatre
As the size of graduating classes has grown over the past few years, seating at the Greek Theatre has become more and more limited. Because of the size of the graduating class (more than 1,000 graduates) and the maximum capacity of the Greek Theatre we have to set a maximum guarantee of six (6) tickets per graduating student: one (1) for the graduate, five (5) for family and friends.
Seating is first-come, first-served for guests who are already present (i.e. saving seats will not work), and your guests may have to climb the steep steps to sit on the grassy hillside above the concrete bleacher seating. If you have never been to the Greek Theatre, you should be prepared for any kind of weather and a wide range of temperatures. It may be very cold on a foggy morning, becoming very hot if the sun comes out. Sunscreen is highly recommended. Guests and students should dress accordingly.
Disability Accommodations
If you or any of your guests require accommodations for disabilities (e.g. wheelchair seating, sign language interpreter), please fill out the special seating request form as soon as possible. If you have any questions please contact Dawn Kramer at bears@berkeley.edu or (510) 643-7828.
Parking
Parking will be available for $10 in campus lots such the Kleeberger lot, Foothill lot and Upper Hearst parking structure. For more information about parking, see the Parking and Transportation website.
Caps and Gowns
Students are responsible for providing their own regalia, including hoods for Ph.D. candidates. Caps and gowns may be rented or purchased from the Cal Student Store. For more information regarding caps and gowns, graduation announcements and ordering yearbooks please contact the Cal Student Store at (510) 642-7028. Post-Commencement Department Receptions
Each College of Engineering department hosts a complimentary post-commencement reception for graduates and their guests. No RSVP is necessary. Department reception locations will be listed in April.
Diplomas
Diplomas are ready approximately four months after your official graduation date. You may pick up your diploma in person for free, or arrange to have it mailed to you for a fee. See the Registrar's website for more information.
Pictures
The College of Engineering has made arrangements with GradTrak Photo to photograph every graduate at the moment the scroll is given. Guests are not permitted on or near the stage, and are not allowed to block aisles to take pictures. For more information about ordering photos or to pre-register visit the GradTrak website.
