Nanotechnology: A Washington Perspective

Floyd Kvamme has been a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a high tech venture capital firm since 1984. In this role, he's helped develop high tech companies from early start-up to the publicly traded phase, and he currently serves on several corporate boards. As a high-tech executive, he's held key executive positions at companies like National Semiconductor and Apple Computer.
In 2001, Mr. Kvamme was appointed Co-Chairman of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) by President Bush. In this role, he's an active policy advisor for a broad range of science and technology areas, including nanotechnology. (PCAST website:

Mr. Kvamme holds two degrees in Engineering; a BS in Electrical Engineering from the UC Berkeley and an MSE specializing in Semiconductor Electronics from Syracuse University.
About the conference:
Floyd Kvamme's keynote presentation will be part of the
ASME Nano: Conference 2005
which will be held at the College of Engineering in Sibley Auditorium, Sept 14-16. The conference will focus on state-of-the art Devices and Systems, Nanoscale Phenomena, and Nanomanufacturing.
Members of the Berkeley campus community are invited to attend any of the plenary talks during the ASME Nano: Conference 2005 at no charge (the three plenary speakers are: Floyd Kvamme, David Soane and Paul Alivisatos).
