Gary Fitzmire is the man responsible for turning Boeing's gee-whiz ideas into reality. His team creates advanced technologies that make the company's aircraft and spacecraft projects possible: projects like the Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle, Space Maneuver Vehicle, Blended Wing/Body Transport, and more. In aerospace innovation, he is on the leading edge. His expertise allows him to envision the future of aviation 20 years from now, like hydrogen fuel cell-powered aircraft and autonomous flight.

Biography:
Gary Fitzmire is Vice President of Engineering & Information Systems for The Boeing Company Phantom Works Division. His primary responsibility is to lead an organization of 1100 advanced technologists and engineers who provide a wide range of innovative, affordable solutions in such areas as avionics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, computational methods, next generation networks and information management for system-of-system solutions, and system safety and reliability. Prior to this assignment, Gary served as Director E&IT and also served as the Program Manager for the Boeing Enabling Technology Program, a program designed to conceive and develop disruptive technologies. This program requires a vision with a 10 to 20 year horizon, the ability to select critical technologies in anticipation of future business opportunities and requirements, and cultivate strategic relationships and alliances across the globe. Gary joined The Boeing Company in 1990 as a Program Manager in the New Aircraft and Missile Products Division and was promoted to Product Center Manager for Airframe Integration Technology of the Signature Design and Application group. In 1997 Gary was promoted to Director, SDA and transferred to Mesa, AZ. In 1999 Gary was transferred to Seattle, WA as Director – SDA.

Prior to his career at Boeing, Gary worked at General Dynamics Corporation, Fort Worth , Texas as a Structural Research Engineer for seven years and then transitioned to General Electric Aircraft Engines, Cincinnati, Ohio as a Manager in Advanced Design for three years.
