As this is our last Lab Notes for 2002, I wish you a joyful and inspirational Holiday Season and the very best for 2003 from all of us at Berkeley's College of Engineering. And, I extend a special thank you for your ongoing support of the College.
A highlight of this month's Lab Notes is our tribute
to the California MESA (Mathematics, Engineering,
Science Achievement) Program, founded in our own College
of Engineering at Berkeley more than 30 years ago. MESA is
now a statewide program and still performing a critical service
to educationally disadvantaged K-12 students from diverse backgrounds,
encouraging interest and preparing them to complete baccalaureate
degrees in engineering, mathematics, and science.
Under the leadership
of former Associate Dean Stan Prussin and our new MESA Director
George Gagnon, and after a year of analysis and evaluation, a new
cluster structure has emerged for our Berkeley MESA program, with
a renewed concentration of personnel and program focus on core academics.
The restructured program is already showing impressive early results
and we look forward to continuing progress in the months and years
to come.
Again, very best wishes for 2003, and congratulations to all those involved in our recent impressive Big Game victory over our friends at Stanford. GO BEARS!
