Top 5 tips for freshmen
- 1. Try something new. College is about discovering who you
are, so take advantage of this opportunity to do something out of character.
You may discover something truly unexpected about yourself.
- 2. Focus on the material, not on the grades. Understand the
concepts, problem sets and the “why.”
- 3. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help. Your graduate
student instructors (GSIs), the Student Learning Center (SLC) and the Academic Center tutors in your residence halls are
great academic resources. Everyone asks for help.
- 4. For late night classes or activities, call Bearwalk at
642-WALK. Bearwalk will accompany you safely home to your residence so you
won’t need to worry about staying out late.
- 5. It’s the people. Befriend and learn from your floormates
and peers. You are more likely to remember your freshmen dorm experiences than
the steps involved in the Otto cycle!

Minute.
