CUES - MEP OutreachCharles Tunstall Multicultural Engineering Program History Outreach Resources TutoringRecruitment Recruiting activities include high school and community college outreach and collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the College of Engineering, and Pre-College Organizations. In addition, MEP works closely with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), the Black Engineering and Science Students Association (BESSA) and the Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES).
MEP's Summer Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) is an intensive twelve-day, residential academic session held prior to the fall semester. PREP consists of rigorous lectures and workshops in calculus, chemistry, physics, study skills, and time management. In addition, students participate in seminars presented by alumni, graduate students, faculty, and engineers in industry. The purpose of PREP is to provide incoming students with insight into the rigors of the first-semester engineering curriculum at UC Berkeley. Students are taught how to combine what at first might seem like two opposing strategies: to compete academically and to successfully employ collaborative learning techniques. Demanding coursework and group projects, as well as living and working together, help foster a sense of community. Many students form friendships that last through college and beyond. Marie Mayne
