Faculty AdvisingFaculty advisers serve as professional mentors, and assist with technical course selection, curriculum planning based upon the student's goals, research opportunities and information on their respective fields. Faculty advisers also approve your academic schedule and provide a Tele-BEARS adviser code that allows you to register for classes each semester.
Who is my faculty adviser?Faculty advisers are assigned based upon your major and assignments are given at new student orientation before your first semester. Due to circumstances such as faculty sabbaticals, it is possible your faculty adviser may change. Updated adviser information can be found at your department web site (right sidebar), or by contacting your department adviser. Note: Engineering Undeclared students should see the Engineering-Undeclared FAQ for information on who to see for faculty advising. How do I meet with my faculty adviser?Faculty office hours are generally posted outside the faculty member's office door. Most professors are happy to meet with you during any of these hours. You may also try contacting your adviser via email to set up a meeting. See the web site of the faculty member's home department or the department faculty advising web sites (right sidebar) for the office address and contact information. If you have questions regarding faculty office hours or contacting a faculty member, see your department adviser. Note: Engineering Undeclared students should see the Engineering-Undeclared FAQ for information on who to see for faculty advising. How do I get my Tele-BEARS adviser code?Your faculty adviser distributes your adviser code upon approving your intended schedule. See the adviser code and Tele-BEARS Advising and Enrollment page for details on the forms and procedures needed to obtain your code and register on Tele-BEARS. Departments will also send additional instructions regarding faculty Tele-BEARS advising by email before Phase I. Some departments have preset advising sessions or meeting times, while others have you meet with your faculty adviser individually. If you do not receive this email or if you have questions regarding contacting a faculty member, see your department's faculty advising page (right sidebar) or your department adviser.
